We sponsored the launching of the Beads of Courage Program to be facilitated through three local hospitals including: Kaiser Permanente, Sutter Memorial, and UC Davis Medical Center. Through the Beads of Courage Program children tell their story using colorful beads as meaningful symbols of courage that commemorate milestones they have achieved along their unique treatment path. This therapeutic program for children with cancer has proven to be a favorite among our children being treated in Reno and Oakland Children's Hospital.
We developed a collaborative partnership between KRM and the UC Davis Children's Hospital in creating the ChildCancer Journey Campaign. In 2005, the Hyundai Corporation awarded the 2005 Hyundai Hope On Wheels - Santa Fe vehicle to KRM. The car branded "Child Cancer Journey" toured Northern CA and Northern Nevada raising awareness and Patient Care Funds for childhood cancer.
We created Voices of Childhood Cancer Project which showcases families whose children battle cancer in northern california. The project began as an attempt to communicate to our legislators the "real stories" of what our families face while fighting for their child's life. The pictures, poems, and letters make a compelling statement. The project began in 2002 and continues as part of our ongoing Advocacy efforts.
